Sculpted and assembled from used metallic mass production objects, Vladimiras Nikonovas’ birds, fish and myth creatures come to life, animated by his attention to detail and ability to manipulate the material. Through his surreal, yet oddly familiar creations he is in constant search of the connection between inner and outer, shape and content, improvisational structures, and strictly built rational order. But the surface from which his characters emerge or stand upon is as important: they peep out from mysterious, restrained profundity, namely their creator’s spiritual subconsciousness, simultaneously emphasizing the cold metallic sheen almost paradoxical to their nature. Born in Lithuania, Mr. Nikonovas is a self taught artist that began his career more than 3 decades ago, all the while experimenting with various mediums, including painting. Since the late 80s his works have been exhibited mostly, but not exclusevly, in Jonava, Lithuania, where he lives and works.
