What inspired you to make art and become an artist? (events, feelings, experiences...)
I have been involved in art for over 30 years. At age 24, I had my first exhibition at a time when I was still doing painting, pencil drawings and abstract art. In recent years, however, I have moved with the times and started focusing on 3D design,3D printing and combining this with brand art such as Louis Vuitton and Hermès.
What is your artistic background, techniques and subjects you have experimented with so far?
Art school in Antwerp, 3D design training by HP, 3D printing training, ...
What are the 3 aspects that set you apart from other artists, making your work unique?
-the constant innovation, I don't stick to one same design that I endlessly milk.
-out of the box, of the hook designs of conceptual art (toilet seats of Hermès, a faux leather of Louis Vuitton with a Mickey Mouse on it in 3D, a mini bike completely restyled after Louis Vuitton design, ....
-all my designs are protected which makes me bring unique pieces and not variations on existing artworks.
Where does your inspiration come from?
-From my own brain fed by beauty, cruelty, creativity. The eyes observe, the brain works it into a concept, the hands complete the process with the finishing touches.
What is your artistic approach? What visions, sensations or feelings do you want to evoke in the viewer?
-People should be amazed by either the softness of the work, the innovative, the cry for more when I make contemporary art. The buyer is central and the price paid is secondary for me and is purely a value gauge towards the quality of the work that the customer determines
What is the process of creating your works? Spontaneous or with a long preparation process (technical, inspiration from art classics or otherwise)?
-Most of my works are already 95% finished in my head before I start anything. That process is a long thinking period of often weeks, how to position something, what colors, what background, ...
Do you use any particular working technique? if yes, please explain
-3d printing, 3d design, mixing colors into a new color, blending logos, objects, etc.
Are there any innovative aspects in your work? Can you tell us which ones?
-The use of faux leather Louis Vuitton sheets, my basketball board from Louis Vuitton, a casino table from Louis Vuitton, a mini harley from Hermès, a table soccer from Hermès, in short I turn existing things into "luxury items
Do you have a format or medium that you are most familiar with? if so, why?
-no, any object is essentially usable as long as I have the concept of what I want to make with it in my head beforehand.
Where do you produce your works? At home, in a shared workshop or in your own workshop? And in this space, how do you organize your creative work?
-I have a workshop of more than 100 m² where I often work on 8 different works at one time. I also have a stock place where I have all my objects that I will ever use :-) I still have pieces for the next 2 years in stock :-)
Does your work bring you to travel to meet new collectors, for fairs or exhibitions? If so, what does it get you?
-yes, absolutely, I am often in Barcelona, I submit works for competitions, I make art for companies or organizations, I make works for municipalities and cities. Every brings something, a fair is a meeting place to get from people and improve works.
How do you imagine the evolution of your work and your career as an artist in the future?
-make bigger works, offer even more quality, make exclusive pieces and especially try to reach the market in Dubai. I have sold my works to more than 24 countries but Dubai remains the big goal.
What is the theme, style or technique of your latest artistic production?
-Brand art combined with cartoon characters, Disney combining with fashion.
Can you tell something about your most important fair experience?
-Every fair is an adventure and anyway an opportunity to give the works more visibility.
If you could have made a famous work from art history, which one would you choose? And why?
-works by banksy, keith harring, roy lichtenstein because they were revolutionary in their work, personality and image.
If you could invite a famous artist (dead or alive) to dinner, who would it be? How would you recommend he spend the evening?
-above three because I want to know where they got their inspiration
